In Revelation, the church at Ephesus was commanded to repent and return to its first works despite walking in truth and preaching proper doctrine because that wasn’t enough in God’s eyes. There’s a difference between doing something out of obedience and doing something because of one’s sheer exuberance for God and His Kingdom. Pastor Steven Kielley reminds us that if all we do as a church is merely obey with a lukewarm spirit, it may not be enough to persist in God’s favor.
